The polar regions are the super-cold areas at the very top and bottom of our planet.
Imagine your freezer at home, that’s kind of like a polar region, but way, way bigger. At the top of Earth, near the North Pole, there's a big place called the Arctic. At the bottom, near the South Pole, there's the Antarctic. Both are polar regions.
Like a Big Snowy Playground
In these places, it’s almost always snowing or freezing. The ground is covered in ice all year round, and sometimes you can see animals like penguins or polar bears walking around on the ice, they’re used to the cold!
A World That Sleeps and Wakes
During summer, the sun stays up for a really long time, it’s like having daylight for weeks! But during winter, it gets so dark that there’s almost no sunlight at all. It's like your bedroom when you're sleeping, quiet and dark.
These polar regions are special because they help keep our planet cool, just like how ice keeps your drink cold on a hot day.
