What are philosophical zombies?

Philosophical zombies are people who look and act just like you, but they don’t actually feel anything inside.

Imagine your best friend is playing hide-and-seek with you. They laugh when you find them, they shout “I see you!” when they spot you, and they even pretend to be super scared when you come running toward them. But here’s the twist: they're not really feeling any of that, it's all just pretend.

That's like a philosophical zombie, or p-zombie for short. They look and act completely normal, but inside, they're totally empty, no feelings, no thoughts, no sense of being alive at all.

What makes them special?

Think of a robot that can talk, walk, and even smile. It can say "I’m happy" when you give it a toy, but it doesn’t actually feel happiness. That’s kind of like a philosophical zombie, it's just going through the motions.

So even though they're around you every day, you might never know if someone is a philosophical zombie or not!
