Persistent or intrusive thoughts are ideas that keep coming back, even when you don’t want them to.
Imagine you’re playing with your favorite toy car. You zoom it around the room, happy and focused. But then, suddenly, a thought pops into your head: “What if I drop my toy car?” That’s an intrusive thought, it just shows up when you least expect it. Now imagine that same idea keeps coming back every few minutes, like a little robot reminding you over and over again. That’s a persistent thought, it won’t stop!
Like a Loud Speaker in Your Head
Sometimes these thoughts feel like they’re coming from inside your head, like a loudspeaker that won’t turn off. You might think “I’m going to fail my test” or “Everyone is laughing at me.” It’s like having a friend who keeps whispering secrets to you, but instead of being fun, it feels annoying and overwhelming.
You can try ignoring them, or even trying to push them away, but they still keep coming back. That’s why they’re called persistent, because they stick around no matter what!
