People lie for many reasons because they want to make things look better, feel safer, or get what they want.
Why People Lie
Sometimes, people lie to hide a mistake. Imagine you spilled juice on the floor, but you didn’t want your mom to be mad. So you say, “I didn’t spill anything!” That’s a lie, just like when you pretend you didn’t break your favorite toy.
What People Want
Other times, people lie because they want something. Maybe you tell your friend you’re not hungry, but really you want the last piece of cake. You're lying to get what you want, like when you say “I don’t need my extra candy” even though you do.
People also lie to protect others. If your little brother did something silly and got in trouble, you might say it was you who made the mess, that’s a kind of lie too!
So, lies are just like playing hide-and-seek, people use them to make things easier or more fun!
