What They Look Like
These artworks often look like stick figures, or animals with simple shapes. Think of them like the doodles you make on the back of a napkin when you're bored at dinner. But instead of using crayons, ancient people used charcoal, pigments, and even their fingers to draw on rock walls or bones.
Why They Made Them
People made these artworks in caves or on stones because they wanted to tell stories, maybe about a hunt or a dream. Some pictures are of animals that were important to them, like bison, deer, or horses. It's kind of like when you draw your favorite pet on the fridge, it’s something personal and meaningful.
These early artists didn’t have TVs or video games, but they had their own way of expressing what was important in their lives, through art!
