What are numerical values?

Numerical values are simple numbers that tell us how many or how much something is.

Imagine you have a basket of apples. If you count them one by one, the number you say out loud, like 5 or 10, is a numerical value. It's just a way to show how many apples are in your basket without having to list them all out.

Like a Counting Game

Think of numerical values as labels for groups. If you have 3 toy cars, the number 3 is the label that shows how many cars you’ve got. It’s like giving each group of toys a name, one for two toys, another for five, and so on.

Numbers Everywhere

You use numerical values every day! When you line up with your friends in class, and the teacher says “Line up by number,” she’s using numerical values to help everyone know where they should stand. You might be number 4, which means there are three people before you, that's also a numerical value!

So, numerical values are just numbers we use in our daily lives to count and compare things. They’re like friendly helpers who always know how many or how much something is!
