What are nucleotides?

Nucleotides are the building blocks of the instructions inside our bodies, just like letters are the building blocks of words.

Imagine you have a favorite toy box. Inside it, there are different types of blocks: some red, some blue, and some green. Each block has a special shape that lets it connect with others. These blocks work together to make bigger shapes, maybe a tower or a car.

Nucleotides are like those blocks. They have three parts:

  • A sugar, which is like the base of the block
  • A phosphate group, which is like a small piece that connects it to other blocks
  • A base, which is like the color, this part can be different, and it helps tell the story of life

When these nucleotides link together in long chains, they become something called DNA or RNA. These long chains are like really big instructions that help our bodies grow, heal, and do everything they need to do.

Just like how your toy box lets you build amazing things, nucleotides let our bodies build life itself!
