What are new rocks?

New rocks are like building blocks that Earth uses to make its body stronger and change its shape.

Imagine you're playing with your favorite building set, each block is a piece of the bigger picture. New rocks are those special blocks that Earth makes when something exciting happens, like mountains moving or lava cooling down.

How New Rocks Are Made

Sometimes, when it gets really hot inside the Earth, molten rock, think of it as super-heated syrup, comes out and cools down. When it cools, it becomes solid rock, just like how melted chocolate turns into a smooth bar when it hardens.

Other times, rocks get squished together by powerful forces, like when you press your hands together really hard on a clay model. This squeezing can change the shape and texture of the rocks, making them new rocks in a different way.

So every time Earth shifts or grows, it makes new blocks to use for building its mountains, valleys, and everything in between!
