What are new foods?

New foods are foods that we haven’t eaten before, just like discovering a new toy in the playground.

Imagine you're used to eating apples and bananas, they’re your favorite snacks. One day, someone brings a purple fruit called a kiwi to lunchtime. You’ve never tasted it before, so it’s a new food. It might taste tangy or sweet, and it has little fuzzy hairs on the outside, just like how some of your friends have hair on their heads!

What Makes Something a New Food?

Sometimes, new foods come from different places. Like when you try sushi, which is made with rice and fish, something not usually found in every lunchbox.

Other times, new foods are made differently. For example, chips can be fried or baked. If you’ve only had fried chips before, then baked ones are a new food to you!

New foods are like surprises in your mealtime journey, they make eating more fun and exciting!
