What are neuroticism traits?

Neuroticism traits are like having different levels of being easily upset or excited about things.

Imagine you have a favorite toy that you love to play with every day. If you're high in neuroticism, you might get really happy when you find it, but also really sad if it gets broken, and maybe even cry a little. You feel emotions very strongly, like the toy is super important to you.

If you're low in neuroticism, you might not mind as much if the toy breaks, you just grab another one and keep playing. You don’t get as worked up about things happening around you.

How it's like being a weather forecast

Think of neuroticism traits like a weather forecast for your feelings. Some days, it’s sunny and calm, you feel happy and relaxed. Other days, it’s stormy and rainy, you feel worried or angry more easily.

People with higher levels of neuroticism are like the weather that changes quickly, they might go from being excited to sad in a blink. People with lower levels are more like the steady weather, they stay calm no matter what happens around them.
