What are neon lights?

Neon lights are bright, colorful signs that you often see outside shops and restaurants.

Imagine you have a glass tube filled with a special kind of gas, like the air inside a balloon, but not regular air. When electricity flows through this tube, it makes the gas glow in a bright color. That's how neon lights work!

Inside each neon light is a glass tube that holds neon gas, or sometimes other gases like argon. When you turn on the power, electrons zoom around inside the tube really fast, it’s like when you shake up a can of soda and bubbles pop out everywhere.

This movement causes the gas to light up, making the whole sign shine in a bright color. You might see red, blue, or yellow lights, each one uses a different kind of gas or has special chemicals inside to change the color.

Neon lights are like the cool kids at school, they stand out and make everything look more fun! You can find them in cities all around the world, lighting up streets with their bright colors.
