A need is something you must have to feel happy and healthy, just like how a toy makes you want to play.
Imagine you're sitting at your favorite table with a plate of cookies, that’s a want. But if the table is broken or there are no cookies, that becomes a need, because without it, you can't enjoy your snack. A need is what you really require to be comfortable and content.
What Needs Feel Like
Think about when you're sleepy at night. You need your bed, it's like your cozy blanket hug. If the bed isn’t there, you might end up on the floor, and that’s not fun! Your need for a good rest helps you wake up ready to play or learn something new.
Needs Are Everywhere
Your body has needs too. Water is like a drink that makes your tummy happy. Food is what gives you energy, it's like fuel for your legs when you run around the park. Even air is a need because you can’t stay under water forever, just like how fish need water to swim.
So every time you feel better or more ready to do something, it’s probably because a need was met!
Examples
- A child needs food to grow, just like a plant needs water.
- You need sleep every night, like a cat needs a nap.
- People need friends because they feel lonely when they don't have any.
