What are natural patterns?

Natural patterns are shapes or designs that happen again and again in nature, just like how your favorite snack has the same shape every time you eat it.

Like a Rhythm in Nature

Imagine you're looking at the sea. The waves come one after another, all the same way, that's a pattern! Trees grow in rows on a hill, or leaves repeat the same shape on a branch, these are also patterns. They’re like the rules of a game that nature plays over and over again.

Patterns You Can See

Think about a honeycomb. Each little hexagon is exactly the same size and shape, that’s a pattern too! Or look at a zebra’s stripes or a tiger’s spots, they all have patterns that help them hide or stand out in the wild.

Even snowflakes are special because each one has its own unique pattern, but they still follow the same rules of how ice grows. So next time you're outside, see if you can find your own pattern hiding in nature!
