What are national identities?

A national identity is like a special group badge that people wear when they belong to a country, it helps them feel connected and proud.

Imagine you're in a big playground with lots of kids. Some kids are from your neighborhood, some are from far away. The ones who live near you might all have the same color of backpack or like the same game. That’s kind of like national identity, it's what makes people feel they belong to a group, even if they're not all exactly the same.

Think of your favorite sports team. Everyone on the team wears the same jersey. Even though each person plays a different position or has their own style, they all share something in common, the national identity is like that team spirit. It helps people feel part of something bigger.

Sometimes, people from the same country might have different ways of living or speaking, but they still share that special connection. That's why you can find people who speak French in France, Brazil, or Canada, they all share a piece of the national identity puzzle!
