What are mountains?

Mountains are big, strong hills that stick up high into the sky.

Imagine you're stacking blocks to make a tower, each block is like a layer in the ground. Over millions of years, these layers get pushed up by forces deep inside the Earth, just like when you press your hands together and push hard on either side of a stack of blocks. That’s how mountains form, they’re like giant towers made from rock.

How Mountains Feel

If you’ve ever walked on a bumpy road or played with a gravel path, you know what it's like to walk on something uneven. Mountains are like that, but much bigger! They have peaks, which are the very top parts, like the highest block in your tower. The sides of mountains are called slopes, and they can be steep or gentle, just like some hills you might climb.

Why Mountains Are Important

Mountains help shape the world around us. They affect where rivers flow and how weather moves. Some people even live on top of them, imagine a house built right in the middle of your block tower!

Mountains are not only beautiful but also very strong, like the tallest towers you can build with your blocks.
