What are mood disorders?

Mood disorders are like when your feelings have a rollercoaster ride instead of going smoothly.

Imagine you have a favorite toy that makes you happy every day, but sometimes it feels like the toy is broken, and you feel really sad or even angry. That’s what happens with mood disorders: your feelings change a lot, and they can take over your day.

When Happy Turns Sad

Sometimes people have depression, it's like being stuck in a cloudy day where everything feels dull and hard to do. You might not want to play, eat, or even talk to friends.

When Sad Turns Up and Down

Other times, people have bipolar disorder, which is like having two emotions taking turns on the swing. One day you're super excited and ready for anything, it's like playing with a new toy every minute. The next day, you feel really low, like your favorite toy was taken away.

Mood disorders don’t go away by themselves, but they can be managed with help from doctors or friends, just like how a broken toy can be fixed with some care and patience.
