What are molecules?

Molecules are tiny building blocks that make up everything around us, like toys in a big playroom.

Imagine you have a lego block, it’s just one piece. But when you put a few together, like two or three, you get something bigger and more interesting. That's kind of what happens with molecules. They’re made up of smaller parts called atoms, which are like the tiny pieces that make up your lego blocks.

How Molecules Work

Think about chocolate chips in cookie dough, each chocolate chip is a little part on its own, but when they're mixed into the dough, they become part of something bigger. That’s how molecules work too! Atoms join together to form molecules, and these molecules can do all kinds of things, like make you feel warm or help you taste your favorite food.

Sometimes, molecules are just a few atoms, like water, which is made from two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. Other times, they're much bigger, like the ones that give your favorite candy its color or flavor. Molecules are everywhere, and they’re what make our world so interesting!
