What are molecules or ions?

Molecules and ions are tiny building blocks that make up everything around us, just like bricks build a house.

Imagine you have a bag of Legos. Each Lego is like an atom, the smallest piece of matter. Now, when two or more Legos snap together to make something bigger, like a car or a robot, that’s like a molecule. A molecule is made by atoms joining together, just like your favorite toy is made from several pieces stuck together.

Now, sometimes these Legos get a little electric charge, like when you rub a balloon on your hair and it sticks to the wall. If an atom loses or gains one of those tiny charges, it becomes an ion. So ions are like charged Legos that can stick to other Legos or even repel them.

When they team up

Molecules and ions can join together in fun ways, like when salt is made from a molecule (water) and two ions (sodium and chloride). This teamwork makes the world taste better, look cooler, and work smarter! Molecules and ions are tiny building blocks that make up everything around us, just like bricks build a house.
