What are megaliths?

Megaliths are big stones that ancient people used to build special places, like homes or monuments.

Imagine you're playing with your favorite building blocks, but instead of small plastic pieces, you’re using rocks the size of a car! That’s what megaliths are like. Ancient people moved these huge stones and put them together to make amazing structures.

Some megaliths were used to build stone circles, where people would gather for special events or ceremonies. Others formed tombs or walls that protected entire communities. These big stones could be standing alone, like a giant pillar, or arranged in rows, like the teeth of a dragon.

One famous place with megaliths is Stonehenge in England. People there used huge rocks, some as tall as a grown-up, and put them together to make that strange circle you might have seen in pictures.

It’s kind of like when you and your friends build the tallest tower out of blocks, but instead of blocks, it's really big stones, and it happened thousands of years ago!
