What are math patterns?

Math patterns are rules that help things repeat or change in a special way, like how your favorite song goes from one line to another.

Like Rhythm in a Song

Think about clapping hands. You might do clap, clap, snap and then repeat it again: clap, clap, snap. That’s a pattern! It's like the beat of a song, you know what comes next without even thinking. In math, numbers can also follow this kind of rhythm.

Like Steps on a Staircase

Imagine climbing stairs. You go up one step, then another, and another, 1, 2, 3. If you keep doing that, the numbers grow in a pattern too! It’s like counting with your feet as you walk.

Patterns help us see how things work, just like knowing where to put your shoes every morning. They’re everywhere, in games, in nature, even in the way your toys line up on the floor. And once you know the rule, you can predict what comes next, just like magic, but with real rules!
