What are mammaries?

Mammaries are special parts of the body that help some animals feed their babies.

Imagine you have a favorite snack, maybe chocolate chip cookies. Now imagine you could carry a whole bag of them inside your chest, ready to hand out whenever you want. That’s kind of what mammaries do! They hold milk, which is like a super nourishing snack for baby animals.

How Mammaries Work

Mammaries are like tiny storage rooms in the body. When an animal has a baby, these special parts start making milk. The baby can then suckle, that’s when it uses its mouth to drink the milk directly from the mammaries. It's like having a built-in juice bar!

Some animals, like humans and cows, have two mammaries on each side of their chest. Others might have just one or even more, depending on what they need for their babies.

Mammaries are super useful, they help babies grow strong and healthy, just like how your favorite snack helps you feel happy and full!
