Main characters are the people or creatures who make the story happen.
Imagine you're playing a game with your best friend. You’re both the main characters, because everything exciting happens because of you two. One of you might be the one who finds the treasure, and the other is the one who protects it, but without either of you, the game wouldn’t be fun.
Like a Team in a Play
Think of a story like a play. The main characters are like the stars of the show, they're the ones who do most of the talking, the fighting, and the discovering. They’re the ones your brain remembers when the story is over.
Sometimes there are two main characters, like a best friend duo, or maybe just one, like a brave hero on a big adventure.
Not Just Anybody
Not everyone in the story gets to be a main character. That’s like being picked for the most important job in the game, you have to do something special, or make big decisions that change everything else.
Examples
- A hero who saves the day in a fairy tale
- The best friend who helps the main character
- A villain who causes all the trouble
