What are machine learning models?

A machine learning model is like a smart friend who gets better at guessing your favorite game as you play it more.

Imagine you have a toy box full of different toys, cars, blocks, balls. Your smart friend starts by picking one toy randomly and asking, "Is this the toy you're thinking of?" You say yes or no. Every time they get an answer, they learn a little more about which toys you like. After playing many times, your friend becomes super good at guessing your favorite toy just by listening to your answers.

How They Learn

Think of it like learning to sort your socks. At first, you might mix them up every day, but after a while, you start recognizing patterns, blue socks go with blue shirts, striped socks are for special days. A machine learning model does the same thing: it looks at lots of examples and finds patterns in them.

Why They're Useful

Once your smart friend knows which toys you like best, they can help you find your favorite toy faster. Similarly, a machine learning model helps computers do things like recognize faces, play games, or even write stories, all by learning from experience!
