What are machine learning algorithms?

A machine learning algorithm is like a super-smart student who learns by doing lots of practice problems.

Imagine you're teaching your friend to recognize different types of fruit. At first, they might guess wrong, maybe they think a banana is an apple. But every time they get something wrong, you tell them the right answer. After many tries, they start getting better and better at telling the difference. That’s how machine learning algorithms work, they learn from examples.

How It Feels to Be the Algorithm

Think of yourself as the algorithm. Every time you try to solve a problem, like figuring out what shape is next in a pattern, you're practicing. If you get it right, you feel proud. If you get it wrong, you take note and try again. Over time, you become really good at solving similar problems.

The More Practice, the Smarter You Get

Just like how your friend gets better with more practice, machine learning algorithms get smarter as they see more examples. They use these examples to find patterns and make predictions, just like you did with the fruit!

So next time you solve a puzzle or learn something new, remember: you're doing what a machine learning algorithm does every day!
