What are living organisms?

Living organisms are things that live, grow, and move, just like you!

Imagine your favorite toy that can move on its own and gets bigger when it eats. That’s kind of what living organisms are like.

Living organisms need food to stay alive, just like you need snacks to keep going through the day. They also grow, which means they get bigger or change over time, think about how your little brother grows taller every year!

Some living things can even move on their own. Like when you walk from one room to another, that’s movement! Some organisms, like plants, don’t move around much, but they still count as alive because they grow and need food.

Look around, everything is full of living organisms!

• The grass outside is made of tiny living organisms called plants.
• Even the bugs crawling on your shoes are living organisms, too!
