What are living expressions?

A living expression is like a special kind of word or phrase that can change and grow as people use it more.

Imagine you have a toy robot that says "Hello" every time you press its button. But one day, you start saying "Hi" instead of "Hello." Soon, your friend starts saying "Hey," and before you know it, the robot is saying all three! That’s like how living expressions work, they can change over time as people use them in different ways.

Sometimes a living expression gets longer or shorter. For example, "text message" used to be "text message," but now we say "txt msg" or even just "message." It’s like how you might draw a picture with crayons and then color it in, the same thing, but more detailed.

Living expressions help us talk about new things in old ways. Like when your mom uses her phone to send you a picture instead of telling you what happened. That's a living expression in action, it’s still a message, but now it can be a photo too!
