Imagine your eyes are little windows. Inside those windows live millions of super-sensitive light receptors. These are the cells that actually see. Without them, your eyes would just be clear glass that lets light pass through without noticing anything.

Think of these receptors like solar panels on a house. Solar panels catch sunlight and turn it into electricity. Your light receptors catch light and turn it into electrical signals for your brain. It is like a secret code.

There are two main types of these detectors:

  • Rods: These are the night-shift workers. They work best in the dark. They help you see shapes and movement when it is dim, like in a dark bedroom or a movie theater.
  • Cones: These are the color experts. They need bright light to work well. They help you see red, blue, green, and all the rainbow colors.

It is like having a black-and-white camera (rods) and a color camera (cones) inside one eye.

When light hits these receptors, they send a message to your brain. Your brain reads the message and paints a picture in your mind. That is how you see your toys, your friends, and the sky.
