What are landscapes?

A landscape is like a big picture made up of all the things you see when you look around outside.

Imagine you're playing in a park, there are trees, grass, maybe a pond or a hill nearby. That whole scene is one kind of landscape. Now think about your neighborhood: buildings, roads, and cars, that’s another kind of landscape.

What Makes Up a Landscape?

A landscape has many parts:

  • Mountains, like big, tall blocks of stone you can see from far away.
  • Rivers or lakes, which are like long or round puddles of water.
  • Forests, where lots of trees grow close together.
  • Fields, which are wide areas with crops or grass.

How Landscapes Change

Sometimes a landscape can look very different from one place to another. For example, near the beach, you might see sand and waves, but in the mountains, you might see rocks and snow, both are landscapes, just made of different things!
