What are invertebrates?

Invertebrates are animals that don’t have backbones, just like you and I don’t have bones on the outside of our bodies.

What Makes Invertebrates Special?

Imagine your favorite toy, maybe a plush bear or a rubber duck. Now, think about how it moves. It wiggles and squishes without any hard parts inside. That’s kind of like invertebrates! They move around using soft bodies, sometimes with lots of legs, or even tiny hairs.

Examples You Might Know

  • A spider is an invertebrate, it has eight legs but no backbone.
  • An earthworm is also one, it squirms through soil without any bones to help it out.
  • Even a butterfly, which flutters from flower to flower, doesn’t have a backbone either!

So next time you see a bug crawling on the sidewalk or a worm in the garden, remember, those are all amazing invertebrates having fun just like you! 🐞🌱
