What are intervals?

Intervals are like spaces between things, just like the space between your favorite toys on the floor.

Imagine you have a number line, which is like a long strip with numbers written on it, starting from 0 and going all the way to infinity. An interval is part of that line, it's all the numbers between two points.

Like a Playground

Think of an interval as a section of a playground. If you're playing from the slide to the swing set, that whole area is your interval. Every kid running around in that space is like a number in the middle of your interval.

If the slide is at 2 and the swing set is at 5, your interval includes everyone from 2 up to 5, even the kids who stop halfway to catch their breath!

Open or Closed?

Sometimes the playground has gates. If the gate is open, you can run right through it, like including the number exactly at the slide or swing set. But if the gate is closed, you can't quite touch that spot. That's like having an open or closed interval.

So intervals are just parts of a number line, they help us talk about all the numbers in between two points! Intervals are like spaces between things, just like the space between your favorite toys on the floor.
