What are implementation intentions?

Implementation intentions are plans that help you do what you want to do, just like when you decide exactly how you'll get from one place to another.

Imagine you have a toy you really want, and it's on the top shelf in the living room. You say, "I want that toy!" But sometimes, you forget about it or don't know how to get it. That’s where implementation intentions come in, they’re like your special map and directions for getting that toy.

Like a Special Map

If you make an implementation intention, it might be something like: "I will climb the stairs, reach up, and grab the toy at 3 o’clock." That’s not just saying "I want the toy", it's saying how you're going to get it.

The Power of Planning

This is super helpful because sometimes, even if you really want something, your brain gets busy with other things. But if you already planned how you’ll do it, your brain says, "Okay, let’s go!" and helps you follow through, just like a friendly helper in your head.

So next time you're trying to remember to do something fun or important, think about making a special plan, that's the power of implementation intentions!
