What are icy bodies?

Icy bodies are like frozen treats that float in space, they're made mostly of ice and other cool stuff.

Icy bodies are objects in our solar system that are covered with ice, just like how your popsicle is covered with frost when it’s really cold. Some of them might also have rock or dust mixed in, kind of like how a cookie might have chocolate chips inside it. These icy bodies can be found way out in the far reaches of our solar system, where it's so cold that things stay frozen most of the time.

Like little snowballs in space

Imagine you're playing with a snowball on a really cold day. That’s kind of what an icy body is like, a big, cold ball made of ice and other stuff. Some icy bodies are even called comets, and when they get close to the Sun, they start to melt and make a glowing tail behind them, just like how your snowball might leave wet streaks if you roll it across the ground.

These icy bodies can be really far away, so far that sometimes we don’t see them until they come closer to our neighborhood in space. It's like having a friend who lives at the end of the street and only comes by once in a while to play with you.
