What are heavier materials?

Heavier materials are things that feel heavier when you pick them up compared to other things.

Imagine you have two boxes, one is full of soft toys like pillows, and the other is full of bricks. If you try to lift both boxes, the box with the bricks will feel much harder to hold because it’s made of a heavier material. The bricks are heavier than the pillows because they’re denser, that means more stuff packed into the same space.

What Makes Something Heavier?

Some materials have more weight in them than others. Think about your backpack, if you put in books, it gets heavy quickly. But if you fill it with feathers, it won’t feel as heavy at all. Books are made of a heavier material than feathers, so they take up more weight.

You can even test this out with your toys! If you have two blocks that look the same size, one is wooden and the other is plastic, try lifting them both. The wooden block might feel heavier because wood is a denser material than plastic.

So, heavier materials are just things that take up more weight in the same space, like bricks or books instead of feathers or pillows!
