What are gut instincts?

Gut instincts are quick decisions you make when you don’t have time to think.

Imagine you’re playing a game of tag at recess. You see your friend running toward you, and before you even think about it, you turn and run the other way. That’s your gut instinct, it helps you react fast without having to stop and plan everything out.

Like a Super-Fast Helper Inside You

Your brain has two parts that work together: one is like a slow thinker who takes time to figure things out, and the other is like a super-fast helper who makes quick choices based on what your body feels.

When you’re in a new situation, like trying a new flavor of ice cream for the first time, your brain’s fast helper might say “This tastes good!” before your slow thinker even notices. That’s how gut instincts work, they help you decide things quickly, using feelings and experiences from before.

So next time you make a snap decision, remember: it's just your super-fast helper doing its job!
