What are Greenhouse Gases? | Science Lesson?

Greenhouse gases are like invisible blankets that keep Earth warm, just like a cozy blanket keeps you warm on a cold night.

Imagine you're wearing a big blanket on a chilly day, it traps the warmth from your body and keeps you toasty. Now think of Earth as someone wearing a blanket made of air, and greenhouse gases are the soft, fluffy parts of that blanket. They let sunlight in during the day, but they also trap some of the heat so Earth doesn’t get too cold at night.

How It Works Like a Blanket

When the sun shines on Earth, it warms up, like when you sit in the sun and feel your skin get warm. But when the sun goes down, Earth starts to cool off. Greenhouse gases act like the fluffiest part of a blanket, trapping some of that warmth so we don’t get too chilly.

It’s like having a friend who holds onto your hand on a cold day, they keep you from getting too cold by sharing their warmth with you.

Without these invisible blankets, Earth would be much colder, just like it would be if you took off your blanket and stood in the snow!
