What are glacier caves?

Glacier caves are big spaces inside glaciers that look like tunnels or rooms, made by ice melting.

Imagine you have a big ice cream cone, not just one scoop, but hundreds of them stacked together. Now picture that whole tower of ice cream starting to melt on the outside. As it melts, the inside starts to become hollow, and that's when glacier caves are born.

Glaciers are like big moving ice blocks, made from snow that has been squeezed and frozen for a long time. When they start to melt from the top or the sides, water flows through the ice, carving out spaces, just like how water can make tunnels in a sponge.

Sometimes, these caves are bright blue inside, because of the way light passes through the ice. It's like looking into a big, cold candy store made of ice!

When it gets dark outside, sometimes you can see light from the top of the glacier, shining down into the cave, and that’s when it feels like you're in a magical place, even without using the word "magic".
