What are genes?

Genes are instructions that tell our body how to grow and work.

Imagine you have a toy robot. When you press its buttons, it does different things, like walking, talking, or even dancing! Genes are kind of like the instructions inside your robot. Just as your robot needs instructions to know what to do, your body uses genes to know how to grow and work.

How genes work

Think of a recipe book. Each recipe tells you exactly how to make a certain dish, like chocolate chip cookies or pizza. Your body has thousands of these recipes (called genes) in special places called chromosomes, which are inside your cells.

When your body needs to do something new, like growing hair or learning to ride a bike, it uses the right recipe from its book. That’s how you get your traits, things like eye color, height, or even how fast you can run!

So genes are like recipes that help make you you! 🎉
