What are gas turbines or power plants?

A gas turbine is like a super-powered fan that turns hot air into electricity, and sometimes powers big machines too!

Imagine you're on a playground swing. You push off the ground, go up high, then come back down, whoosh! That’s kind of how a gas turbine works, but with fire.

Inside a gas turbine, something called fuel (like gasoline or natural gas) burns really hot. This heat makes air zoom through special pipes at super speed, spinning a big wheel connected to a generator. The faster the wheel spins, the more electricity it makes, just like how you go higher on the swing with each push!

How they power cities

A power plant is like a giant kitchen that cooks up electricity for your whole town or city. It uses gas turbines (or other machines) to make lots of electricity at once. Think of it as a factory where instead of making cars, they make energy, and that energy goes through wires to light up your house, power your fridge, or even make your video game run!

Sometimes, these power plants are like teams: one part makes the heat, another turns it into motion, and then another takes that motion and changes it into electricity. All working together, just like you and your friends on a swing set!
