What are gas lasers?

Gas lasers are like super-powered flashlights that use special kinds of gas to make very bright and focused light.

Imagine you have a flashlight, but instead of just a battery and a bulb inside it, there's a whole room full of tiny gas particles, kind of like the air we breathe. These particles get excited when electricity zaps them, and they start shining brightly. This light then bounces back and forth between two mirrors inside the flashlight (or laser), getting brighter each time, until it finally zooms out through one side as a super strong beam.

How It Works

  • The gas inside acts like the heart of the laser, it's what makes the light so powerful.
  • The electricity is like the cheerleader that gets the gas particles going.
  • The mirrors are like the walls of a bounce house, they help the light keep bouncing until it’s ready to come out.

This kind of laser is used in things like hospital equipment, fancy lights shows, and even in cutting through materials like metal or glass, just like how a really strong flashlight can make shadows that seem to move!
