What are free black individuals?

Free black individuals are people who were born or became free and could live where they wanted, work when they wanted, and make their own choices, just like you can choose what game to play at recess.

Like a Playground with No Fences

Imagine the playground is your whole world. Some kids have fences around their part of the playground, they can’t go anywhere else or try new games unless someone lets them. But free black individuals are like the kids who don’t have fences. They can run to any corner of the playground, play with anyone, and pick their favorite game every day.

From Chains to Choices

Some people used to be tied up by chains, like being stuck in one spot on the playground. But free black individuals had those chains taken away. They could move around, find new friends, and even start their own games or clubs if they wanted to.

It’s like getting a special key that unlocks the whole playground, no more fences, just freedom!
