What are fraternal twins?

Fraternal twins are two brothers or sisters who were born at the same time but came from different eggs.

Imagine you're making a sandwich, and instead of using one egg to make your whole sandwich, you use two separate eggs, each one becomes a part of the sandwich. That’s kind of what happens with fraternal twins: two different eggs meet up with two different sperm, and together they create two babies who are born at the same time.

Like Two Friends Sharing a Playground

Think of fraternal twins like two friends who both get to play on the playground at the same time. They might have different favorite games, one likes to swing, and the other likes to slide, just like how fraternal twins can look different from each other and have different interests.

Sometimes they’re as different as a boy and a girl, or they could be two boys or two girls who still look a little bit alike. But no matter what, they were both born together, like best friends who started their adventure at the same time!
