What are forward-looking expectations?

Forward-looking expectations are like when you guess what will happen next based on clues from now.

Imagine you're playing a game where you have to choose which cup hides a toy. You don’t know yet, but you look at the clues, maybe the person who hid the toy always moves it to the left cup after hiding it. So you think, “Maybe today it’s the left cup again.” That thought is your forward-looking expectation, you're using what you know now to guess what might happen later.

Like Predicting Your Snack Time

Let’s say every day at snack time, your teacher brings out a big bag of cookies. Sometimes she gives everyone 2 cookies, sometimes just 1. But you notice that when the sun is shining outside, she usually brings more cookies. So when you see the sky is bright and sunny, you think, “Maybe today I’ll get 2 cookies.” That’s your forward-looking expectation, using what you know now (the sunny day) to guess what might happen later (getting more cookies).

It's like having a little detective inside your brain that helps you make smart guesses about the future!
