Follicles of the eyelashes are little pockets in your skin that help grow your eyelashes.
Imagine your skin is like a garden, and each follicle is like a tiny seed pot. Just like you plant seeds in pots to grow flowers, your body uses these pockets to grow hair, specifically, eyelashes. Each time your eyelash grows, it starts inside one of these little pockets, then pushes through the skin to come out and make your eyes look bigger and brighter.
How Follicles Work
Think about your fingers. When you push a finger into the ground, it makes a little hole or mark. Your eyelashes do something similar, they start inside the follicle, then grow up through your skin like a tiny flag coming out of the ground.
Sometimes, when your eyelash grows back after falling out, it can feel like you're brushing your finger across sand, that’s the follicle working hard to bring the new hair to the surface!
Examples
- Imagine a tiny factory under your eyelid that builds each eyelash one by one.
- When you pluck an eyelash, it's coming from its home, the follicle.
