What are even integers?

Even integers are whole numbers that can be split into two equal parts without any leftovers.

Imagine you have a bag of cookies, and you want to share them with your best friend. If the number of cookies is an even integer, like 4 or 6, you can divide them equally, each person gets exactly half.

An even integer ends in 0, 2, 4, 6, or 8.

Think about counting on your fingers: if you count to 10 and stop at 2, 4, 6, or 8, those are the numbers that can be shared equally between two people.

• You have 6 toy cars. If you and your friend each take 3, there are no leftovers.
• Your family has 10 plates. If you divide them among 2 people, each gets 5.

If the number had a leftover, like 7 or 9, it would be called an odd integer. But with even integers, everything is fair and square!
