What Makes Something Erupt?
Why It Happens
Sometimes things inside a container get hot or pressurized, like when you leave your soda can in the sun. The gas inside gets bigger and bigger until it can’t stay in anymore, BOOM! Everything bursts out! That’s how volcanoes work too: molten rock (called lava) builds up inside the Earth, and when it finally comes out, it erupts.
So next time you see a volcano or even your soda can explode, remember, that's just something erupting! Erupts are when something pops out suddenly from inside, like a volcano or even your soda can if it gets too shaken up.
Examples
- The ground shakes as hot magma bursts through the Earth's surface.
- A mountain explodes with fire and ash, covering nearby towns in debris.
