What are epidermal stem cells?

Epidermal stem cells are tiny helpers that keep your skin healthy and strong.

Imagine your skin is like a big, busy city, full of buildings (your skin cells) working hard every day. But just like a city needs workers to build new buildings or fix old ones, your skin needs special helpers called epidermal stem cells to make new skin cells and replace the old ones when they get tired.

Like a Skin Factory

Think of epidermal stem cells as skin factory workers who live deep down in your skin, in a place called the basement layer. When your skin needs more workers, these special cells jump into action. They copy themselves and become new skin cells that travel up to the surface, like little trucks delivering fresh paint to a house.

When your skin is hurt or gets dry, these stem cell workers are there to help it heal, just like how your body fixes a scrape on your knee!

So every time you take off your socks or rub your hands together, you're using epidermal stem cells working hard behind the scenes. They’re not magic, they’re just really good at their job!
