Enslaved individuals are people who are forced to work for someone else without being able to leave or choose their own lives.
Imagine you have a favorite toy that you can't play with unless you follow exactly what your big brother says, and if you don’t, he takes it away. That’s kind of like what happens to enslaved individuals. They are treated more like tools than people, and they often have to work very hard for someone else without getting much in return.
What does it mean to be enslaved?
- Enslaved individuals usually don’t get to make their own choices.
- They might not be allowed to see their families or live where they want.
- Sometimes, they are moved from place to place like pieces of furniture, just because someone else decides it’s time.
It's a bit like being stuck in a game you didn’t choose, and you can't leave until the person who controls the game says you can.
Examples
- A man forced to build a house for someone else every day.
- People who are not allowed to leave or choose their jobs.
