What are enforcement mechanisms?

Enforcement mechanisms are the rules and actions that make sure everyone follows the rules.

Imagine you're playing a game with your friends. You all agree on the rules, like you can't take more than two turns in a row. But what happens if someone breaks that rule? That's where enforcement mechanisms come in! They’re like the referee of the game, making sure people follow the rules or else they get a penalty.

If you're on the playground and you're supposed to wait your turn on the swing, but you jump on it before it stops, that’s breaking the rule. The enforcement mechanism might be a friend who reminds you, "Hey, wait your turn!" or maybe the teacher who says, "You’ll have to wait five minutes before you can swing again."

Think of traffic lights too! When the light turns red, you're supposed to stop. If you don’t, poof, there might be a fine (like losing your allowance for a week). That fine is an enforcement mechanism that helps keep everyone safe and following the rules.
