Elevators are like stairs that move up and down without you having to walk.
Imagine your house has many floors, maybe a ground floor, a second floor, and even a third! If you want to go from the first floor to the third, instead of climbing all those stairs, you can step into an elevator, which is like a small room that moves up and down inside a building. It takes you where you need to go quickly and easily.
How Elevators Work
Think of an elevator like a box on rails, it’s attached to strong ropes or chains that go all the way from the top floor to the bottom floor. When the elevator goes up, the ropes pull it higher; when it goes down, the ropes let it move lower. There are buttons inside the elevator you press to choose where you want to go.
Why We Use Elevators
If a building has many floors, like a big school, hotel, or office, elevators make life much easier. You don’t have to run up and down stairs every time you want to visit someone on another floor!
