What are electors?

Electors are special people who help choose the president in a big vote.

Imagine you and your friends are picking a class president, but instead of everyone voting directly, each group (like your table or team) picks one person to represent them. That person is like an elector, they get to cast their group’s vote for the class president.

Like a Team Pick

In real life, when people in a country want to pick a president, they don’t all vote together. Instead, each state has its own team of electors, and each elector votes for the president based on how people in that state voted.

How It Works

Each state gets as many electors as it has representatives in Congress, like having more team members if your group is bigger. After everyone in a state votes, the electors from that state meet and cast their votes for the person who won in their state.

It’s kind of like how your team picks one person to be the class president, but on a much bigger scale!
